Cauquenes Attractions
Calan Arches
It is one of the greatest attractions of the Pelluhue commune, it was declared a nature sanctuary in 2021, with an area of 241.5 hectares. It corresponds to a representative area in terms of biodiversity, due to its landscape value, its coastal marine condition and wetland due to the presence of representative species of birds, invertebrates, fish and marine mammals.
Putu Dunes
The Putú dunes form the largest group of these that can be found in Chile. Formed by the action of the Maule River and ocean currents, this enormous dune field never ceases to surprise anyone with its surreal views.
Pelluhue
The coast of the current Province of Cauquenes, which includes the communes of Chanco and Pelluhue, presents 191 archaeological sites that correspond to the archaic and pottery periods .
Chanco
Originally, the village was on the seashore. However, during the 19th century, the dunes advanced and buried the crops and the old village. It was only at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the action of the German botanist Friedrich Albert Faupp , that the village was saved by planting a forest, which was declared a national reserve in 1979, and the village was re-established to the east of this forest.
